Venice - October 1 - 10, 2006 and 5 hours in Paris
Pigeons! What would Venice be without them?!
From: Bert (venicelover) @ 88.108.152.250 (Wed 31 Dec 2008 09:21:31 EST)
Answer: cleaner! I love Venice, and wouldn't want to see it change, but I don't like pigeon-poo.

Dorsoduro area.

That's Ponte Briati, across Rio Briati, alongside Rio dei Carmini. You were standing next to the Armenian College Moorat-Rafael, also known as Palazzo Zenobio.

This is Rio Ognissanti. The buidings opposite face onto the Zattere and the Giudecca Canal. One of them is the Palazzo Clary, which has a couple of very large door-knockers with Neptune and dolphins.

A not so common grassy area in the campo by the Gervasio church.

The Church of San Trovaso, whose name is a Venetian 'corruption' of Santi Gervasio e Protasio. The canal must be Rio Ognissanti.

J'aimerais être assise devant ce beau jeune homme hahahaha

On Tuesday morning, I looked outside my window and saw that the woman across the way was drying up peppers -- see I told you spying on her might be as interesting as a great view. :)

I think they are mostly beans, Lynn. The red things on the right look more like tomatoes to me. I helped shell beans like those in a famous Venetian restaurant (al Mascaron) last time I was there.

Typical pictures, but I couldn't resist...
From: Bert (venicelover) @ 88.108.152.250 (Wed 31 Dec 2008 10:29:08 EST)
Don't worry about it, Lynn. It is probably impossible to take a photo in Venice that somebody hasn't taken before.

Just another typical canal in the San Marco area.
From: Bert (venicelover) @ 88.108.152.250 (Wed 31 Dec 2008 10:35:19 EST)
That'll be Rio Menuo o de la Verona, with the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo facing you across Rio di San Luca.

La Fenice also has a lot of mirrors and great staircases.

Fine picture of a fine looking lady.

The Church of San Fosca.

You can delete this post, Lynn, when you have changed the title of the photo to 'Santa Fosca'

What a magnificent shot. In fact, so far they all are. Thanks for sharing.

And this is for the Donna Leon fans. This is the door of the Questura which Guido works at. Being a huge fan, when I saw the police station marked on a tour map, I had to go see it and then capture my reflection in the door. Not the greatest picture from a 'beauty' standpoint, but a fun memory for me.

Wish you had captured a shot of Inspector Giudo, my favorite sleuth.
Enjoyed your photos because they really capture memories for me.

San Maria del Rosario church

Lady saints are Santas, Lynn :-)
That makes Santa Claus seem a bit odd. Male saints beginning with 'impure s' are called 'Santo' - so Santo Stefano, not San Stefano. But San Stae, because that's a shortened form of San Eustachio.

And since it was a little cooler on that day, I had the perfect excuse to get a capuccino and write in my journal.

this is the perfect note card to wish anyone a beautiful, relaxing day!!Love it..!!

Only a hundred to go! But I'm loving your photos, and this is a beauty. The colour is just beautiful.

The church is bordered by two canals.
From: Bert (venicelover) @ 88.108.152.250 (Wed 31 Dec 2008 11:47:00 EST)
It's not really bordered by two canals. The Rio dei Miracoli runs alongside it. The Rio di Ca' Widmann is nearby, but not bordering the church.:-)

This was a costume shop and had all sorts of wigs - I bet they are busy at Carnivale time.
From: Bert (venicelover) @ 88.108.152.250 (Wed 31 Dec 2008 12:06:28 EST)
Nice photo, Lynn. That's the Frari Church behind you. I bet you knew that.

Then I walked by this bakery. The BEST marzapan cakes! Worth EVERY SINGLE calorie!!

Venice - cats - marzipan - sigh!

The ship's masthead
From: Bert (venicelover) @ 88.108.152.250 (Wed 31 Dec 2008 12:47:44 EST)
I think you mean 'figurehead', Lynn.:-)
A masthead is the banner at the top of a newspaper or website.

Back down and one more look above. It was time to go back to the hotel and this time truly end my vacation. It was a fabulous vacation, Venice for 9 days and a surprise visit to Paris...it still brings tears to my eyes that I can't just hop on a plane and go back for a quick visit, but I will return! Ciao and au revoir.
From: Bert (venicelover) @ 88.108.152.250 (Wed 31 Dec 2008 12:54:56 EST)
Fabulous, Lynn!
How long did it take to upload all those photos?
You could send me a message through Fodor.
